Convert PDF to TIFF image Windows 7 64 bit

Recently one of my users requested that I find them a way to convert their PDF documents to TIFF images for use in TeamMate. For whatever reason (likely legacy software), they could only save their markups and links to TIFF images and no other format seemed to work. Previously, on their old 32-bit Windows 7 machines all they had to do was click Print and choose the Microsoft Office Document Image Writer from the drop-down. Then, their page would be instantly saved as a usable TIFF image.

However, with Office 2007 and Windows 7 64 bit, the Doc Image Writer is no longer an option. Instead, to successfully convert pdf files to tiff images, I had to do the following:

  • Download and install PDFCreator for free.
  • Once installed, open the PDF you wish to convert to a TIFF image.
  • Click print and select PDFCreator from the list of printers.
  • Click print again. You will then be presented with the following dialog
  • From there, click Options
  • You can then select the output options on the left-hand side. If you are converting text documents for TeamMate as I was in this situation, you want to make sure you have your resolution set to 600dpi and your color set to PackBits. This will ensure that your files are crisp, but still maintain a reasonable file size.
  • Click Save
  • Click Save again, and select TIFF file from the 'file type' drop down before you save.

That's it. PDFCreator makes it easy, fast, and free to convert pdf documents to tiff images on Windows 7 64 bit. I've tested it on 10 different machines and it works flawlessly on each one.
